For the first time in India, the population of women exceeded men, the value of daughters increased more in villages than in cities

India is now moving towards gender equality. There are now one thousand and twenty women for every one thousand men in the country. The fertility rate has also decreased, due to which the risk of population explosion has also decreased. These things have come to the fore in the data of the National Family and Health Survey (NFHS). Let us tell you that NFHS is a sample survey. The Union Health Ministry has released these figures on 24 November. Let us tell you that the National Census is conducted on a large population.

Other NFHS statistics

India has a large number of youth.

The share of the population in the below 15 years age group has come down from 34.9 per cent in 2019-2021 to 26.5 per cent.

Fertility rate has decreased. The average number of children giving birth in a woman's lifetime has come down from 2.2 to 2.

Contraceptive use has increased from 54 per cent to 67 per cent.

Terming it an important achievement, Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Director of National Health Mission said that better sex ratio and sex ratio at birth is also an important achievement. Even though the real picture will come out from the census, we can say looking at the results now that our measures of women empowerment have moved us in the right direction.

According to the data of the National Family and Health Survey (NFHS), the number of women in the country is now continuously increasing as compared to men. Now there are 1020 women for every 1000. During the 1990s, there were only 927 females for every 1000 males. In the year 2005-06, the number of women and men in the NFHS figures was 1000-1000. However, after that there was a decline in it. In 2015-2016, there were 991 females against 1000 males. However, now women have left men behind in terms of numbers. However, if we look state-wise, some states and union territories are likely to have more women than men.
