Copenhagen: Sweden's first female prime minister, Magdalena Andersson, resigned on Wednesday. The special thing is that her resignation happened within 12 hours of her election as PM. In fact, the Green Party involved in the coalition withdrew its support to the government. Anderson then resigned from her position. Withdrawal of support had thrown the Anderson government into uncertainty. The Coalition Government had introduced the Budget Bill in Parliament but it fell through. After this the Green Party decided to break away from the government.
Speaker will tell about the next steps of Parliament
After the resignation, Anderson said in a conversation with the media, 'I have requested the speaker to relieve me of the duties of the post of Prime Minister. I am ready to be the prime minister of a single party Social Democrat government. At the same time, Speaker Andreas Norlen said that he would contact the leaders of eight parties of the country to discuss the current political situation. The speaker will announce the next course of action for the 340-seat parliament on Thursday.
Anderson wants to lead Social Democratic government
"It's a question of honor for me, but I don't want to lead a government whose legitimacy can be questioned," Anderson told reporters. Anderson has told parliament speaker Norlen that she is still keen to lead a "social democratic" single-party government. He said that if one party withdraws support to the government then the coalition government should resign.
