Kanpur: Thanks to excellent spin bowling, India made a spectacular comeback on the third day of the first Test being played here and took six wickets for visiting team New Zealand till tea time.
New Zealand started their first innings today with a lead of 129 runs for no loss. Tom Latham and Will Young both got off to a good start, but Ravichandran Ashwin broke the partnership by taking Will's wicket for 151. Will was dismissed after scoring 89 runs. In the morning session, New Zealand lost another wicket as captain Kane Williamson became the victim of fast bowler Umesh Yadav and returned to the pavilion after getting out leg before.
Left arm spinner Axar Patel then picked up three wickets in the afternoon session to put India in a good position in the match. Axar bowled with the second new ball, dismissing Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham. He conceded only 14 runs in his spell of 11 overs. Earlier, New Zealand were in a good position of two wickets for 214 runs, but by the time they reached the score of 227, their five wickets fell. The visiting team could manage only 52 runs in 32.3 overs this season for the loss of four wickets. Apart from Axar and Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja bowled brilliantly. Jadeja clean bowled Rachin Ravindra.
